REV PA ROWLAND '41
SMU TRUSTEE '57-64
This paver is both in memory and in honor of my grandfather, Rev. Perry Albright Rowland, Commander Chaplain Corps, USN (Ret) (Deceased). He grew up in Arkansas and came to Dallas to attend SMU, graduating in the summer of 1941 with his theology degree, and then served as a Navy Chaplain in the South Pacific during WWII. He had a long and distinguished career as a preacher and pastor, primarily in the Southwest Missouri District of the United Methodist Church, and was elected to the SMU Board of Trustees in 1957 and served in that capacity until 1964. He was a great and thoroughly positive influence during my early formative years, and one of my fondest memories is playing chess with him via postcard when I was in college prior to his passing in 1988. I am proud of the work I have done in the SMU Dean of Student Life Office for the past 15 years and am very much looking forward to surprising my mom (his oldest daughter) and extended family with news of this gift.
