I completed my pre-med courses in 1968, and obtained an MD degree at UT Southwestern in 1972. While attending SMU, I was privileged to be a student of Dr. Harold Jeskey, who was also the pre-med student advisor. Without Dr. Jeskey's outstanding teaching of organic chemistry and letters of recommendation, I would not have been able to !achieve my goals. Later in life, I felt honored to be one of Dr. Jeskey's physicians. I am grateful that I was able to provide medical care to one of my favorite mentors.
Dr. Jeskey's organic chemistry course was memorable, not only for the content, but also his stories of the "old masters". A highlight of the laboratory sessions was Victor Grignard Day where we were working on synthesis of sulfanilamide. It was thrilling when the reaction started rolling and boiling. I still have my chemistry lab manual!!
My son, Jonathan Eichhorn, was pre-med at SMU, and graduated from UT Southwestern in 2005.
