Charles H. Hammett
Class of 1947
I grew up as a child at SMU, as my dad is an alum and came to SMU on a football scholarship, playing as a fullback during the late 1940's with Doak Walker. We attended football games and "adopted" Peruna as our away-from-home pet. My sister and I participated in children's theatre events and I studied piano with Al Mouledous, who is still on the faculty. After a singing career in North America, Mexico and Europe I returned to Dallas and am currently the Director of Opera at Meadows, where I have been for eleven years. My parents, Charles & Jeanne Hammett (now both 92 and still living independently in my childhood home in Richardson)), come to every opera event we do at Meadows and sit on the front row! My parents are two of the finest people I've ever known and this is one way we can honor them and their legacy. They still love being on campus and supporting everything we do at SMU!
