Millard Fillmore (1800
1874) became President in 1850 upon the
death of Zachary Taylor. One of his first acts in office was to appoint
Daniel Webster as Secretary of State. Benjamin Franklin Tefft (1813–
1885) was a Methodist minister, author, educator, college president,
and United States diplomat.
