Voices of Change Recordings and Materials
About the Collection
Founded in 1974 by pianist Jo Boatright and Clarinetist Ross Powell, Voices of Change is one of the United States' premier ensembles dedicated to performing works by 20th and 21st century composers. As of 2016, the ensemble has performed over 300 pieces by well-known and up-and-coming professional composers. Over 75 of these pieces have been world premieres, including pieces commissioned by Voices of Change. In 1999, Voices of Change received a Grammy nomination for Best Performance by a Small Classical Ensemble for their work Voces Americanas.
In 2014, The Voices of Change donated their collection to the Hamon Arts Library at Southern Methodist University. The collection includes audio and video recordings, scores, records, posters, photos, scrapbooks, and other ephemera. These materials along with a second related collection, the Ross Powell Collection, total 116 linear feet and document over three decades of contemporary classical chamber music in North Texas.
The Voices of Change Recordings and Materials digital collection will showcase the Voice of Change performances along with corresponding materials (programs, etc.) The collection features performances of works by Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky, George Crumb, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and others.
The online collection mirrors the structure of the physical collection and is sorted by series. Items from the following series are available:
Series 1: Scores
Series 2: Oversized scores
Series 4: Offical records
