Date1/Date 2: For p use Date 1 for the release date (corresponds to 260) and Date 2 for the recording date (1st date in 033 and/or 518).


Place of Publication: Use as required.


Form of Composition: For 2 or more different genres/forms use mu (multiple) and list each genre in the 047 field. Use uu (unknown) or zz (other) when applicable.


Format of Music: n (not applicable).


Accompanying matter: Up to 6 codes in alphabetical order to describe accompanying materials such as bibliography, discography, biographical information, historical information, program notes, etc.


Language: For spoken or sung texts only. For multiple languages put the dominant language in the fixed field and list the dominant and the other languages in the |d in 041. Disregard language(s) of accompanying material. For instrumental music, put N/A in the fixed field and use the appropriate subfields in 041 for the language(s) of accompanying material.


Standard Numbers: 1st indicator 1: 11-12 digit UPC printed beneath a barcode. 1st indicator 3: 13 digit International Article Number printed beneath a barcode.


Issue/Matrix number: Often found on the spine of jewel case. |a Number: include the initials that may precede numbers, spaces, and hyphens; transcribe as it appears. |b Publisher (|a CDA67463 |b Hyperion). Use the 2nd indicator 0 and provide a 500 note when it needs explanation, for instances if: variant forms of an issue/matrix number appear; it is a reprint and the number is for the original publisher; there is a range of numbers.


Date of Capture: |a Date of capture (YYYYMMDD); replace any unknown parts with hyphens (YYYYMM--). If no date is known do not use 033. Ignore |b and |c, location of capture (033 20 |a 20020126 |a 20020129).


Languages: Use this field when an item is multilingual, and/or has accompanying materials (program notes, librettos) in different languages. The 1st indicator (translation) applies to sung or spoken texts only, not to accompanying materials. |d indicates the sung or spoken texts and must correspond to the language code in the fixed field.  |h may be repeated immediately after any subfield |a, |e, |f, |g.


Time period of contents: Date(s) of composition, not publication. Use |b formatted date (|b dYYYY).


Form of Composition: Use this field when an item includes multiple forms and the corresponding fixed field (format of music) says mul. List each code in a separate |a, but do not include uu or zz. Use this field only if there are specific codes found in the list. If only one of multiple forms has a code, use the fixed field for this one form instead of 047.


Number of musical instruments or voices: Make separate 048 for each selection if the instrumentations are different. Use the instrument/voice code with a 2-digit number to indicate the number of parts in the repeatable |a. Use the subfield |b for soloists (|b sa01 |a oa), but use |a for unaccompanied solo instrument/voice (|a sa01). If the medium is not explicitly stated, do not use this field. Use the codes for the instrumentation for the item in hand, even if the item is an arrangement.


LC classification number: Leave if available.


Main entries: Use as required. If a performer is the main entry, include the relator code |4 prf. Do not use the relator code if a composer is the main entry.


Uniform title: Use in conjunction with the 100 composer main entry. Do not provide 240 if an item is entered under a performer. Make a 240 even if the uniform title is same as the title proper. Supply |p (part), |s (formats), |k (selections), |l (languages), and/or |o (arrangement) when applicable.


Title proper and other title information: The 1st indicator must be 1 in the presence of 100 even when the title proper is generic. Use the disc itself as the chief source of information. If the disc lacks the title proper, use container (any information that can be seen through the jewel case) or insert (booklet). Use GMD |h [sound recording] immediately after the title proper. Treat medium of performance, number, date, etc. as part of title proper if the title is generic (|a Sonata no. 1, for flute and piano in F major); if the title is distinctive, treat medium of performance…etc. as other title information (|a Mad cows : |b for string quartet in E major : (2000)). Transcribe only the English parallel title when there are multiple parallel titles.


Statement of responsibility: Only composers are entered in this area. Use 511 for performers. If a performer is the main entry leave |c blank.


Variant title: Do not make 246 for |b parallel titles. When the item lacks a collective title, use this field only for the title proper (|a); use 740 for other titles.


Edition Statement: Use when applicable.


Publication, distribution, publication date: Use p date on the item with the initial p. If the item lacks p date, use the copyright date in square brackets. |c [2003]


Physical description: |a Include duration only if the item contains only one work. Transcribe hours, minutes, and seconds (2 hr., 34 min., 12 sec.). For items with multiple works, use 5xx. |b Transcribe “stereo.” only if it is stated on the item. |c 4 ¾ in. for CDs. Do not use |e Accompanying materials for CD jackets or booklets.


Duration: Each duration per work, not movement/section, is recorded in a separate |a HHMMSS. All 6 digits must be present. For duration given as a range, record the longer duration.


Series: Use as required.


Publisher number: Give publisher’s number and/or plate number if 028 is not sufficient (028 with the 2nd indicator 0).


Statement of responsibility: Use when applicable to supply name(s) of librettist, lyricist, arranger, etc. (Based on: Paradise lost / John Milton. ; Previously attributed to G.F. Handel). If there are numerous librettists, lyricists, etc. for a collection, use 505 instead to list statement of responsibility.


Performers: Name performers and the medium in which they perform. List each member of small chamber ensemble in parentheses after the name of the ensemble (Eroica Trio (Adela Pena, violin ; Sara San’Ambrogio, violoncello ; Erika Nickrenz, piano)). For a collection of multiple performers and/or guest performers who perform in selections, indicate the work in which they participate (Sarah Chang, violin (in the 2nd work) ; BBC Orchestra ; Neville Marriner, conductor). Provide name/corporate body added entries in 7xx.


Date of performance and recording: Record date and location of recording (Recorded Nov. 23-26, 2003, St-Jude-on-the-Hill, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London).


Edition and history: Reissue information. (All selections previously released in 1995 as Decca 012).


Physical description: Compact disc. Use the singular term disc, even for a multi-CD item. In a separate 500 note include: Analog recording for a digital disc made from an analog original. Do not use 538 for this note.


Durations: Use a separate 500 for duration if an item lacks a collective title. If an item has only one work use 300 |a. Separate hour, minute, and second by colons (18:00; 23:12  not 18 min.; 23 min. 12 sec.). If individual works are listed in 505, give duration for each work there.


Accompanying materials: Information on the program notes, libretto, inserts. (Program notes by Robert Freeman and biographical information on the performers in German, French, and English, and texts with English and French translations (78 p. : ill., ports.) inserted in container.).


Bibliographical references: Use this field if the CD inserts include bibliographical references such as footnotes, even if there is not a separate page of bibliography or discography per se.


Contents: Give title proper, other title information, and statement of responsibility when an item consists of several works and if they are not already included in 245. If an item has a collective title and each work is included in 505, put duration in 505.  Performers may be listed in parentheses after their respective title or composer, if an item is a collection entered under the title main entry.


Standard Numbers: Use 024.


Subject headings: Provide subject heading(s) for each work but do not repeat the same subject heading(s). Qualify by medium of performance when needed. Supply free floating subject heading such as Arranged (Piano music, Arranged), as necessary.


Personal name subject added entries: Use for a person whose literary work is used, especially for poets whose works are used for songs. Provide |v Musical settings. (Shakespeare, William, |d1564-1616 |v Musical settings). Provide 700 added entry for these names.


Personal and corporate added entries: Make an added entry for any person or corporate body mentioned, if considered important. Provide relator codes when applicable (|4 cnd).


Personal name-title added entries: The 2nd indicator is blank when a work is based on, or inspired by other works (245 14  Die Schöpfung / Joseph Haydn. 500 __  Based on Paradise lost / Milton.  700 1_ |a Milton, John, |d 1608-1674. |t Paradise lost). Use the 2nd indicator 2 for analytical added entries. Analyze each work, regardless of MCD 25.34, if considered important. Supply |k, |s, |l, and |o when required. Do not provide |4 relator codes for name-title added entries.


Uncontrolled analytical title as added entry: When an item lacks a collective title, use 740 for the distinctive other title information. Do not use this field for generic titles. Provide 740 when necessary, even if there are analytics for these works in 700s.
