SMUSA (SMU Staff Association) promotes the full participation of all staff in the University’s educational mission in a variety of ways including development of workplace skills, outreach and campus participation, serving as liaison to the University administration and fostering a sense of community among those associated with the University. Staff are automatically members of the Staff Association – we encourage you to join the fun and get involved!
“Giddy-Up” Safety Escorts
The Police Department provides a courtesy van service to anyone while on the SMU campus. To obtain a ride, call 8-3388. “Giddy-Up” cart rides are generally provided by student employees of the Police Department who are restricted to delivering you to on-campus locations only. If student employees are not on duty, SMU Police Officers will respond to your request if they are not working higher priority police related matters. Giddy Up carts may also be summoned by picking up a call box phone identified by a bright blue light on top of them and which are located throughout the campus. These phones may also be used to reach the SMU police in case of an emergency.
SMU Pre-School and Child Care Center
This NAYCE accredited child care center is owned and operated by the University under the Department of Residence Life and Student Housing and is located in Hawk Hall. The center is available for children of current SMU students, faculty and staff. Care is offered on a full time basis only and spaces are limited.
A full-service post office, run by Pitney Bowes, is located on the main floor of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center. The post office ships via USPS, Airborne, FedEx, HHL and UPS and cash and credit cards are accepted.
Houses one of the largest collections of Spanish Art outside of Spain. The paintings that comprise the largest part of the collection range from early Renaissance works, painted at the end of the 15th century, to modern works by Picasso and Juan Gris. Museum services include a full-service restaurant, a museum store, and an elegant spaces to host events. SMU faculty, staff, and students receive free admission upon presentation of their University photo ID. Discounted memberships are also available to faculty/staff and offer a variety of benefits depending on the level of membership.
Home of the SMU Swim and Dive program, this facility has one outdoor and one indoor swimming pool. Staff and Faculty may use these pools with the purchase of a swim pass – either annually or per session.
SMU Transit Pass (DART)
Purchase an SMU transit pass and ride the DART, TRE and the “T” (Ft. Worth local transit) for free! Transit passes may be obtained in the Park and Pony Office in Expressway Tower. Check their website for hours of service and current cost.
Computer Corner is an authorized campus reseller serving students, faculty, and staff at SMU. They have contracted with various manufacturers to offer great pricing on computer hardware and software. Computer Corner is located on the main floor of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center.
Credit Union of Texas
Formally the Dallas Teachers Credit Union, SMU faculty and staff are invited to be a part of a local credit union with access to their resources and services such as free checking for university employees, interest bearing checking and savings accounts, and low interest loans. Applications are available through the Department of Human Resources or from the Credit Union of Texas website.
The SMU Barnes and Noble Bookstore serves the SMU campus as well as the surrounding community. It houses a coffee shop and gift store where you may purchase all your SMU gear as well as textbooks and general reading material. A children’s corner is also included as well as a spotlight area for faculty publications. Staff employees receive a 10% discount when you present your SMU ID card!
SMU Travel and Expense
SMU Travel and Expenses are managed via Concur, an online system. Travel arrangements and associated costs are rectified in the system as well as SMU Procurement Card expense management.
Dining Options/Dining Advantage
SMU Dining aims to bring you great food and create community across campus. Dining Advantage is a prepaid program offering substantial savings to the following campus residential restaurants, RFoC @ Lee or Mac's Place. You can purchase dining access in two block formats: ClubADVANTAGE 10 or ClubADVANTAGE 25. Each entry to one of these dining facilities will be deducted from the balance in your account. If dining at RFoC, you have access to the Faculty/Staff dining room located just off the student area. These packages may be purchased at the Dining offices in Umphrey Lee Center.
The Faculty Club
The purpose of the Faculty Club of Southern Methodist University is to serve the professional, educational, and social needs of the members of the Club. It strives to bring various parts of the university together in order to create a more collegiate atmosphere, one in which all who care about SMU feel welcome. Membership is open to current and retired faculty and staff as well as Alumni for a minimal annual fee. Benefits include a special invitation to all Faculty Club sponsored events, ability to rent the Faculty Club for events, $10.00 off the price of a Dining Advantage 10 Meal Block or $25.00 off a Dining Advantage 25 Block. Membership applications and instructions may be downloaded off the SMU website.
Tate Lecture Series
The Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series has been bringing some of the finest minds in the world to the SMU campus for over 25 years! While tickets to the lecture series are purchased, often a student forum is held the afternoon of the lecture and staff and faculty are invited to attend for free.
SMU Athletic Events
University employees are sometimes offered the opportunity to attend athletics events at discounted rates. Announcements of special marketing are made through bulk emails to faculty and staff. You may also call the Athletic Ticket Office to get up to date information on current discounts.
McFarlin Auditorium is the site for many University and student events. McFarlin is also used to showcase international dance companies, famous vocalists, and nationally celebrated bands. Access to these events is just a step away for staff and faculty!
