Cy Bell is currently a freshman at Southern Methodist University majoring in Viola Performance. He studies with Barbara Sudweeks, former Dallas Symphony Associate Principal Viola. He has played viola since he was 10 years old, and has found that making music as a violist is his true calling. Raised in San Antonio, Texas, Cy served as principal violist for the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio under the direction of Troy Peters. Cy attended Louis D. Brandeis High School in San Antonio where he served as principal violist for the Brandeis Chamber Orchestra, and performed with that ensemble in Carnegie Hall. In 2018, Cy was accepted into the Texas All-State Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist, Cy participated in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition, and received the prestigious Outstanding Soloist Award for two consecutive years. In 2019 he was a finalist in the Tuesday Music Club Young Artist Competition. He also won the Brandeis High School concerto competition in 2018. Over the summer of 2019, Cy attended the Interlochen Arts Camp on a full scholarship. While at Interlochen, he received the acclaimed Interlochen Maddy Award, and served as principal violist of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra.
