At Meadows, you'll start creating on day one. You’ll do more than prepare for the future at Meadows—you’ll shape it in your first year. We challenge each student to develop his or her gifts to the highest level. We challenge students to find their unique voices and to develop the highest level of craftsmanship. While message and craft are the foundations of art, at Meadows we also practice entrepreneurship, outreach and engagement because they make an artist employable and relevant.

Advertising alum Gina Farmer (B.A. '01) used the knowledge gained through her Meadows experience to catapult herself into the world of entrepreneurship in a variety of industries.

Students in Meadows' Temerlin Institute of Advertising have earned a combined 88 awards in advertising competitions so far this year, with more to come as the semester continues.

Meadows/ARCO Artist Spotlight: Teresa Lanceta

Teresa Lanceta (b. 1951) is a textile artist based in Mutxamel (Alicante), Spain, who recently won her country’s National Prize for Fine Arts. The Meadows Museum is pleased to present a selection of her weavings, painted and sewn fabric, and pencil drawings in this focused exhibition, the first by a fiber/textile artist in the museum’s nearly 60-year history.

Meditating on Materiality in the Meadows Collections

Thirty objects from the Meadows Museum’s permanent collection of Spanish art, SMU’s Master of Fine Arts Collection, and its University Art Collection explore how artists intentionally challenge the limits of their materials. Works by John Chamberlain, Helen Escobedo, Alberto Giacometti, Jim Love, Pablo Picasso, and Ruffino Tamayo, among others, will encourage viewers to expand their own understanding of the relationship between matter and meaning.

Torn Apart: Punk + New Wave Graphics, Fashion, & Culture, 1976-86

This exhibition brings together two notable collections of posters, flyers, clothing, and ephemera from this highly influential era of pivotal cultural shift in Britain and the United States.
